Professional Development
EdSolutions can tailor half-day and longer
workshops to fit the needs of the educators in your district.
Our network of scholars, business leaders and retired educators
is unparalleled in experience and professionalism. In addition
to topical education issues like literacy promotion, block
scheduling and teaching diverse student populations, please
find below an abbreviated listing of workshops which have
grown from the specific requests of EdSolutions clients.
Technology Leadership Workshop
Using his own experiences and research gleaned from the
worlds of business, finance and academia, Jeff Livingston
teaches small groups of educators to see themselves as the
pivotal point in the emerging Knowledge Services Industry.
The goal of the workshop is to empower education professionals
to use the power they have to demand the products and the
services they need for their students.
Fast Forward: How Technology is Changing the World
Most educators already realize that they teach in a social,
political and economic environment that is quite unlike that
in which they were educated. This workshop is designed to
help education leaders understand how recent developments
in genomics, pharmacology, information management and communications
are creating the world in which their students will live their
lives. The goal of the workshop is to define the direction
of the changes and to foster changes in curriculum and teaching
styles in light of these developments.
Getting In: Understanding the College Admissions
Process
Teachers often are only familiar with the college admissions
process they went through themselves or with that of the local
public university. This workshop is designed to explain the
process by which competitive colleges and universities select
their students and the role that educators can play in improving
the chances of admissions success for their students. Focus
areas include: Curriculum Choices, Standardized Testing, Letters
of Recommendation, Personal Statements, and Extracurricular
Planning.
The Best and the Brightest
In response to requests from public school districts, EdSolutions
has developed a half-day workshop for gifted high school students,
focused on the college admissions process. In this workshop,
students who have been identified as high-potential are equipped
with tools designed to improve their chances of admission
of Ivy League and other selective colleges and universities.
This workshop has been particularly popular in school districts
that have not traditionally sent students on to the Ivy League
but have committed to improving their record in this area.
The workshop places particular stress on obtaining financial
aid.
